When the Office of International Education asked me where I wanted to go for a factory visit I said "SpaceX, Tesla, Nasa or Prezi." So as you might imagine we didn’t fly out to California or Texas. But a worthy competitor is right here in Budapest, Prezi.
So Prezi is a Hungarian startup. More to say “The Hungarian Startup”. The company is a branchild of Adam Somlai-Fischer, Péter Halacsy and Péter Árvai. They built a platform to revolutionise presentations and presenter software and that is exactly what they did! Their Google-esque Headquarters in Budapest is something a few people can see up close. I’ve known about the company for a long time but the colorful lively hall and the House of Ideas still surprised me a great deal.
The thing you have to know about Prezi is that they like getting stuff done. Everything else is secondary. Workdays? Schedule? Office or Lounge area? As long as you get your work done, these don’t matter! And this is exactly how their new office building at Nagymező Street is designed. We just walked in. No reception, security or anything else like that. There was a table in the corner of a vibrant hall where a lady greeted us without any surprise and asked us who we were looking for. Guitars, pillows, screens and laptops all over the place. Even a scooter for faster transportation. We waited there for our guide to pick us up, and he leaded us to the House of Ideas where we were introduced to the story and culture of Prezi.
After several questions and friendly chatting our visit was over. My last question was the same as an other visitor’s first one when he walked out:’ Are they hiring?’
