After studying hard in spring semester the International Office of Education organized a two-day trip to Eger for us to spend some time together and to rest a little before the exam period starts.
Eger is a small town in Northern Hungary and it is famous for its red wine and its Turkish bath.
First, we visited the Castle of Eger. It was interesting because we could discover the castle and watched a 3D movie about Eger and the history of Hungary at the same time. We got to know that before the World War II. it was a big country but after the war it was divided into smaller parts. There was a nice view of the city from the castle as well.
Eger is a quiet and peaceful place with lots of historical buildings. People are very friendly there. After lunch we discovered the St. John Basilica, Dobó Square, Lyceum, Minaret and so on.
However, the most interesting activity was in the evening. We had time for wine-tasting. We could hear some traditional ways how to make red wine from a Hungarian guy. We tasted several kinds of wine and felt happy.
On Sunday, some of us went to the Turkish bath and the others visited the Town under the Town exhibition in the city. Then we had time to see the Szalajka-valley. The sights were so wonderful, the air was fresh and the water in lakes or streams was so pure that we could see everything even at the bottom of the lake.
Last but not least, we would like to say many thanks to the International Office of Education who organized this wonderful trip for us. We hope that we will have more activities in each semester and more opportunities to discover many other places not only in Hungary but also in other European countries.
